Pastor Jude Testimony

I always knew from the time I was young that God had called me to serve Him but. I had no idea in which way He had planned out His call on my life until the year
2000.  It was in June 2000, when Kampala Pentecostal Church released me to go and serve at Kabalagala Pentecostal Church just outside the city centre as youth and
music pastor. I did not know then that the Lord was placing me in the very area. He had ordained for me to serve which is the red light district of Kampala
City. As of the time I was serving at this church, the burden to reach out to young people on drugs and in prostitution grew. Consequently, in 2002 God brought me in
contact with one young man who was struggling with addictions to drugs and alcohol. His name was Simon Kavule(RIP).

Simon gave his life to Christ but continued to struggle with the addiction to alcohol until his death a year later. However, before he died, he introduced me
to his friends in the bars and brothels that he used to relate with. By now I had come to know that it was not easy to break into the community of these
people as they are so protective of each other. As I tried to help Simon day after day, I had also tried to reach out to others but with no success. It was
after Simon introduced me to them as his pastor that they accepted me and were willing to listen to me. One connection led to another and eventually the burden
to particularly reach out to the drug addicts, alcoholics and prostitutes grew stronger.

In early 2005, I shared this burden with the pastoral team of Kabalagala Pentecostal Church and suggested that we could start a ministry to intentionally
reach out to these people. Though supportive, the senior pastor was not optimistic that we would be able to achieve this aim as the church was more focused on reaching out to
vulnerable children. I continued to pray to God to lead me ahead and in December 2006, the church leadership accepted to release me to do what God had
laid on my heart. With their blessing, I left the church in January 2007 and started Jubilee Praise Church,Nsambya in July 2007. Since we had no venue or offices anywhere, we started by meeting in our living room and the living room was also our office and for a while, it also served as accommodation for some of the prostitutes that has nowhere to stay after denouncing prostitution. Due to lack of accommodation space, we could only manage to accommodate very few, and this forced many of them to continue to stay in the little shacks they were renting and as a result remained in continued temptation of going back prostitution.

In the last two years we have tried to get a safe place for them to stay but our  success has been somehow limited by financial constraints. We are trusting the Lord to enable us provide better after care  for our target group which of course would include safe accommodation and empowerment projects to enable them move on to a more productive lifestyle in the society. So far, we have managed to train some in handcraft projects to pave the way for self employment We have also managed to secure semi skilled labour jobs for some and have even  sent some back to school. One of the young men; Gideon Muhwezi, we have helped go back to school is about to finish his diploma in music and another young man Francis En-Maye has just completed his ordinary level education. He will be joining high school soon as we try to get funds to ensure that he completes his studies too. Immaculate Nabawanga, who is a single mother is also at the music school in her second year. Precious one of the girls that has turned away from prostitution and also a single mother, will completing her training in tailoring and we have already acquired a sowing machine to give to her when she graduates. Precious Mahoro one of the first fruit of our church, has just got a job as an office messenger and she too is a single mother. Most of these girls get baby's and sometimes they do not know who the father is.

Since we started reaching out to these people, we have had contact with close to a hundred young men and women struggling with these addictions. Many have given
their lives to Christ but then continue to struggle with work and sources of income which happen to be the main reason according to them why they are
reckless with their lives. Of course I know that there are evil spiritual forces behind all this and we are doing everything possible as a church to patiently
disciple them into a life of victory as they walk with Christ. I believe and know that they will be helped better if we can have a place for
them to stay where we can consistently teach them the word of God, pray with and cover them but also train them in life surviving skills to create their own honourable employment.

We are hoping the Lord will pave the way for us to acquire a van for  mobile ministry for medical and spiritual use and also to transport new believers to church to encourage them continue their walk with Christ.  Many of them use lack of transport as an excuse for not coming to church and so we think a 14 seater van can help us sort that issue out. I know with God, nothing shall be impossible.

Christ ministry is for the transformation of lives and I am all exited about Hope Alliance objectives of uniting for people in the Body of Christ for the sake of transforming lives globally for Kingdom glory sake. I look forward to Hope Alliance visiting Uganda and I am optimistic that our partnership relationship will to the glory of God enable us better transform lives not just in Uganda but across the earth globe to the glory of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

I am certain with God on our side we can take the gospel of Jesus Christ which is all about love to the end of the world.

The Lord bless you all
